11:25 AM PayPal's (EBAY) tie-up with payment-processing rival Verifone (PAY) is all about fending off Square, suggests Owen Thomas. PayPal, while expanding its offline partnerships, doesn't have Verifone's retail reach, and Verifone can't match PayPal's low cost structure.
