    The smart money has been running out of Greece for some time now. Friends of mine have been out of the euro for years on my advice, and in gold, for years. I like silver and agricultural commodities as well.

    Regarding the conviction of stock investors, I think they should be convicted if they're buying while Europe is unraveling and an attack on Iran looms likely. So, I would say any investor lacking conviction is wise today. Wouldn't you?

    What!? I wouldn't call the European economy stable. Zero growth after a quarter of contraction while major disruption looms is not representative of stability. That said, yes, Europe will disrupt the American economy and stock market; in fact, it already is.

  • Real Estate - A Good Investment Again? [View article]
    I'm not sure if it's a good investment yet, but I expect it will be eventually when inflation begins playing an active roll for real assets. For now, real estate faces significant threat with the economy (read European rub-off and Iran) which shouldn't be pushed aside as they are very real. That said, I suggest real estate for those without their own shelter and adequate resources to afford a home now even if a job is lost.

    Further, this is a good sign (existing home sales) but a vulnerable economy facing serious threats will likely undermine it. A few other authors seek to extrapolate individual home builder success to the entire new home market, but that is flawed.

    I think it's more a sign of the better capitalized large publicly traded and better managed builders enjoying a significantly more important share of the market post the fallout of the crisis and failures of smaller builders. We cannot therefore extract the results of a handful of builders and apply it to the entire new home market.

    Housing affordability has never been this great. That said, the economy is facing several threats that should not be ignored. I do recommend real estate for those seeking their first home or for shelter (where it can be afforded with job security), due to affordability and my view for the inflation of real assets against fiat currency in the long-term.

    I like real estate though as a hedge against the inflation I see coming long-term on the devaluation of fiat currency, plus the secure shelter it offers. New construction and homebuilders are another thing, but real estate is cheaper now and affordable thanks to record low mortgage rates... if you can qualify. If you can, don't count on always qualifying - scoop it up while you can.
