We have backtested futures markets to 1800 and stock markets to 1880 to find patterns that constantly repeat themselves in the stock market. We use a Market Direction model to decide which side of the market we should be heavily playing. It uses a BUY SELL or CASH signal. We weight our portfolios accordingly based on this model. We trade any and every signal we get in the stock, ETF, and futures market using very tight cut loss parameters. Every buy signal has a set final cut loss signal. However, if we take a large position, and we lose more than 0.5% of the total account value on one trade the position will be cut in half or sold completely based on the price/volume action. Fundamentals helps us decide "how much" money we invest in a long or short. If the stock has stellar EPS/sales growth and other measures we will buy up to 10% of our portfolio in one position. Speculative stocks never make up more than 2.5% of port per position. If a stock has stellar fundamentals we will also keep any short in a downtrending market to no more than 2%. This rule, however, is eliminated, in severe downtrends. Then we will focus on shorting the best stocks that had the biggest % gain during the last uptrend cycle.
