Motorola (MOT) CEO Ed Zander today said the company next week will unveil a new phone focused on very high video quality, with the ability to show movies at 30 frames a second. Zander said the new phone will be launched in Europe, with an ability to watch “unbelievable quality movies” on SD memory cards.

Zander mentioned the yet-to-be-announced device in passing during a keynote address at the Software 2007 conference in Santa Clara, California, this morning.

Mostly, Zander provided the party line: the world is going mobile, broadband and content-rich.

He also provided a nice little factoid, which is that the world is buying 32 cell phones a second; that is 8x faster than the global birth rate (and I checked his math; it works out to about 1 billion phones a year).

Anyone know what is powering the video on these phones? I wonder if they have a dedicated GPU and if either Nvidia or ATI is involved.
